As founder and editor of the new start-up Latitude News, she has developed a new way to connect Americans with the world through crowdsourcing, social media and podcasts. Formerly a BBC producer, Balinska is now overseeing monthly podcasts that explore the ways people and communities in the United States are linked with the rest of the world. Read more

Maria Balinska wins Global Digital News Frontier grant

The International Women's Media Foundation announced Feb. 16 the winners of the inaugural Women Entrepreneurs in the Global Digital News Frontier grants. Each grantee will receive $20,000 to launch innovative new media enterprises. Latitude, conceived by Maria Balinska, will approach international journalism by exploring connections between Americans and the rest of the world and promoting a deeper understanding of how the U.S. fits into the global news narrative.
