Paige Williams, a 1997 Nieman Fellow, became a staff writer at The New Yorker in June. She had previously contributed to the magazine as a freelancer, covering such varied topics as politics in the suburbs of Detroit, capital punishment in Oklahoma, and an international dinosaur fossil smuggling operation. A National Magazine Award winner, Williams is also an associate professor at the Missouri School of Journalism. She previously taught narrative writing at the Nieman Foundation, where she was also editor of Nieman Storyboard.
