David Abel of The Boston Globe received the Ernie Pyle Award for Human Interest Storytelling and $10,000 from the Scripps HowardFoundation for “The Richard Family,” a two-part narrative about overcoming physical challenges and living with grief after the Boston Marathon bombings.
