The Nieman Foundation presented the 2016 Taylor Family Award for Fairness in Journalism and the 2017 I.F. Stone Medal for Journalistic Independence on April 26, 2017.

The Oregonian/OregonLive won the Taylor Award for “Toxic Armories.” Finalists were ProPublica for “Busted” and The Post and Courier (Charleston, S.C.) for “Every Other Breath.”

Victor S. Navasky — journalist, author and publisher emeritus of The Nation — was awarded the I.F. Stone Medal in recognition of a career dedicated to journalistic integrity and for his work speaking truth to power.
