Deputy foreign editor, The Washington Post
I can’t begin to tell you what my year at Harvard did for me. I learned so much — from psychology to digital strategy to how to ask better questions. I grew in confidence. Not only were the professors brilliant; they were generous and eager to hear my opinions. The Harvard community, including my Nieman Fellows, were curious, full of ideas, and really collegial. Thanks to the Nieman program, I began to think of myself as a leader.
The lessons I learned — both in class and outside — have paid off over and over again since I returned to the newsroom from Cambridge five years ago. I am a better journalist; I like to think I am a better person.
