Tommy Tomlinson has written a local column for the Charlotte Observer since 1997. He was a finalist for the 2005 Pulitzer Prize in commentary, and in 2004 he won the American Society of Newspaper Editors’ award for profile writing. He was also named the best local columnist in America by The Week magazine. He has taught at Poynter Institute and the University of Georgia.
