Sewell Chan has been a staff reporter for the New York Times since 2004. He is the bureau chief of “City Room,” a local-news blog that began in June 2007. He previously covered public transportation and City Hall. From 2000 to 2004, he was a staff writer at the Washington Post, where he covered local government and education and co-wrote a series on the treatment of juveniles in city-financed group homes. He has also written for the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Wall Street Journal.
