2009 Nieman Conference on Narrative Journalism: Telling True Stories in Turbulent Times

Mark Simos

Mark Simos is an assistant professor of songwriting at Berklee College of Music, and a songwriter with more than 100 songs recorded by prominent artists including Alison Krauss and Del McCoury. As a composer, fiddler, and “tunesmith,” Simos creates original music that draws strongly on traditional forms and themes. In teaching songwriting, he addresses narrative in song structure as well as in the processes by which writers transform stories into songs.
