David Jiménez, NF ’15, has been named editor-in-chief of El Mundo, Spain’s second-largest daily newspaper. A former Asia bureau chief for the paper, he has covered stories from the nuclear disaster at Fukushima and the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami to wars and conflicts in Afghanistan, Kashmir and East Timor, Burma, Indonesia and Nepal. His work has also appeared The Guardian, The Toronto Star, and Esquire, among other publications. Jiménez is also the author of three books, including the award-winning “Children of the Monsoon.” At Nieman, Jiménez studied the role of foreign correspondents in the digital era and the development of new online platforms to extend the reach of freelancers’ work, especially in developing countries.
