Ayers honored with Carr Van Anda Award

Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism awarded Anniston (Ala.) Star publisher H. Brandt Ayers its prestigious Carr Van Anda Award Monday, Sept. 26, citing his outstanding career achievements to society and the communications field. "Brandt Ayers is a bit of a living legend in the American newspaper industry, and is perhaps the best-known publisher/editor of what we often refer to as ‘community newspaperss’." said Professor Bill Reader. Jack Landau Dies at 74

Jack Landau, 74, an early leader of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, died Aug. 9 of complications from emphysema. Landau, a reporter-lawyer covering the U.S. Supreme Court for Newhouse News Service, was known for his passionate advocacy of legal rights for journalists. He was a member of the Class of 1968. Six Fellows Receive Sigma Delta Chi Awards

The Society of Professional Journalists announced Monday, April 14, the recipients of the 2007 Sigma Delta Chi Awards for excellence in journalism. Five Nieman alumni were among this year's winners, who were chosen from more than 1,000 entries in 48 categories including print, radio, television and online. Read more
