Presentation of the 2014 Worth Bingham Prize and Taylor Family Award

The Nieman Foundation presented the 48th annual Worth Bingham Prize for Investigative Journalism and the 14th annual Taylor Family Award for Fairness in Journalism on May 7, 2015. The Miami Herald won the Bingham Prize for its comprehensive “Lost Innocents” series, while the Chicago Tribune took home the Taylor Award for “Red Light Cameras.” Taylor finalists were Chicago Magazine for “The Truth About Chicago’s Crime Rates” and The Boston Globe for “The Longest Road.” Read more

Chicago Tribune wins Taylor Family Award with “Playing with Fire”

The Chicago Tribune has won the Nieman Foundation’s 2012 Taylor Family Award for Fairness in Newspapers for “Playing with Fire.” The six-part series revealed how the chemical and tobacco industries for years misled the public with deceptive campaigns that promoted the use of toxic flame-retardant chemicals that don’t work and pose serious health risks to consumers. Blair Kamin wins urban journalism award

Blair Kamin, the Pulitzer Prize-winning architecture critic of the Chicago Tribune, has been chosen as the 2012 winner of Urban Communication Foundation's Gene Burd Urban Journalism Award. He will be honored at the UCF's annual Association for Education in Journalism & Mass Communication conference in Chicago on August 10. Kamin is a 2013 Nieman Fellow. Read more

Pulitzer Prize for Feature Writing: Amy Ellis Nutt

Only one of seven crew members survived the sudden sinking of the Lady Mary, a scallop boat, in March 2009. Reporter Amy Ellis Nutt, NF ’05, spent seven months unraveling clues, and in November 2010, her five-part series, “The Wreck of the Lady Mary,” appeared on the front page of the Star-Ledger and on its website, where it featured photographs and video by her colleague Andre Malok. Nutt was awarded the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Feature Writing. Read more
