The Society of Professional Journalists announced Monday, April 14, the recipients of the 2007 Sigma Delta Chi Awards for excellence in journalism. Five Nieman alumni were among this year’s winners, who were chosen from more than 1,000 entries in 48 categories including print, radio, television and online. The Nieman winners include:

Feature Writing (circulation of 100,000 or greater): “The Beekeepers,” Louise Kiernan, Class of 2005, Chicago Tribune.

Public Service Circulation (circulation of 100,000 or greater): “Beyond Walter Reed,” Staff (including Anne Hull, Class of 1995), The Washington Post.

Magazine Writing: “Pearls Before Breakfast,” Gene Weingarten, Class of 1988, The Washington Post Magazine.

Feature Reporting: “Rwanda: Trying to Move On,” Jeb Sharp, Class of 2006, Jennifer Goren & Ray Fallon, PRI’s The World, WGBH Radio, Boston.

Investigative Reporting (Network/Top 25 Markets): “Evidence of Injustice,” Steve Kroft, Ira Rosen, Class of 1987,  Matt Richman & Sumi Aggarwal, CBS News-60 Minutes, New York.

Research about Journalism: “From Ink to Paper to the Internet,” Jerome Aumente, Class of 1968, New Jersey Press Association, West Trenton, N.J.
